Under an artistic commission for the Robert Doisneau Lycée in Vaulx-en-Velin near Lyon (France), I have built produced 7 sundials on one of the main facades of the new building. These dials simultaneously
give the solar times of several towns and cities at different longitudes and invite Lycée users to turn their thoughts to the "world beyond".
This naturally led us to imagine an eighth dial on the Internet. The present site is the outline.
Initially intended as a "support for the artistic project", this interactive dial can give the solar time of your locality (and others), provided you take two precautions:
- with our Webcam check that the sun is present at that very moment in France over the Lyon region,
- send us a few documents describing your chosen locality if it is not included in the list of towns and cities provided.
This site includes the general description of the project, the interactive dial, a compendium of maxims, some links to other artistic or scientific sites and a link to the Lycée.
