There are ten villages in the “canton” (the area)
They are as beautiful as the landscapes.
There are : Champoly, Chausseterre, Chérier,
Crémeaux, Juré, Saint Just en Chevalet, Saint Marcel d’Urfé, Saint Priest
la Prugne, Saint Romain d’Urfé and la Tuilière .
There are 31% of
woods in the area.
Crémeaux and Juré: less than 20% of forests.
Chérier, Saint Just en Chevalet,Saint Marcel D’Urfés
and Saint Romain d’Urfé from 20% to 30% of forest .
Champoly and la Tuiliére: from 30% to 50% of forests.
Saint Priest la Prune and Chausseterre : more than 50
% of forests.
There
are mainly firs trees in these forests.
The quality of the wood is good.
In these small villages there aren’t many broad-leaved.

The roofs of the houses are covered with red tiles. The
walls of typical houses are made of stones but recent houses are painted in
a soft colour (beige, sandy colours)
The windows are made of wood with shutters.
Houses
usually have two floors with a balcony but there are also houses without any
floors.
These houses usually have a terrace.

In 1999, on the
26th of December there was a tempest.
More than 300
millions of trees were down after the tempest. (4% of the forest in France),
not to mention all the trees which had to be cut after.
It will take 100
years to have the same trees.
